Mindy Simmons: Celebration of Life and Music
Saturday May 7th ~ 4:00 PM ~ Unity of Sarasota Sanctuary
Mindy Lou Simmons October 14, 1958-February 18, 2022 On February 18, 2022, Sarasota Songbird, Mindy Lou Simmons, died unexpectedly from a sudden illness at Sarasota Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was 63. Mindy made her debut on the world stage in Denver Colorado on October 14, 1958. As a Navy brat, she spent her youth moving across the country with her parents and three siblings. She thrived on the opportunities this gave her to meet new people and to embrace new experiences. She began her music career shortly after graduating from Colorado Women’s College in 1980. Mindy’s business card introduced her as a singer/songwriter/musician/entertainer. She was all that and so much more. Mindy was a giver and she cast her net far and wide. She was passionate about humanitarian issues and the health of our planet.
Mindy was also deeply spiritual. The bumper sticker on her car stated her belief that “God is too big for any one religion” and she shared her ‘Mindy Ministry’ with organizations throughout Florida. In 2011, she was presented with the Duisberg Annual Peace Award. Above all else, Mindy will be remembered for inclusiveness, her quick wit, and her infectious smile. She was predeceased by her parents, William Wells Simmons and Barbara Brill Simmons. She is survived by her son Aaron W. Simmons, her three siblings, Marcus L. Simmons (Becky), Mylinda S. Woodward (Kirby), Marsden W. Simmons (Annie). Nephews Gerowe T. Simmons, Dylan Simmons, Kyle Simmons and Spencer Woodward. Nieces Haley Simmons and Tegan Woodward. Aunt Bridgie Brelsford, cousins Gordon Hackstaff, Barbara Hackstaff Lutz, Lori Bayless and Peggy Bayless.
