When Rev. Dr. Suzi Schadle @Unity of Sarasota asked me to head the Trunk & Treat for Halloween this year, I thought what a great idea because we can offer our community and kids a safe place to trick or treat! So Viviane ‘Vivi’ Silverman, a member at Unity and local Creative Designer here in Sarasota offered to help with the decorations and we decided on a Tim Burton theme from ‘Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas’ complete with a 6.4″ tall animated ‘Jack Skellington’ the Pumpkin King, Sally, and all the little animated figures from the movie.
Other talented members of our church generously donated autographed books they’d written, jewelry, massages, and even Ballroom dance classes for the Grand Prize baskets for best costumes! And Betty McQueen brought her amazing giraffe collection to give every single child a stuffed animal to take home as a token of this momentous occasion. Everyone came to church dressed up in the most amazing costumes with their cars decorated and trunks filled with candy for the more than 80 kids that showed up!
Just goes to show… all you need is a vision, “build it and they will come!” Next year, we look forward to seeing YOU at our 2nd Annual Trunk & Treat! ~Bella Chartrand
