Tibetan Monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery Visit Unity of Sarasota
Unity of Sarasota was honored to host eight Tibetan Monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery in Southern India from February 24th through February 28th at our Enlightenment Center.
The Tibetan Monks created a Green Tara Sand Mandala, an ancient Tibetan tradition signifying impermanence, non attachment, compassion and wisdom. They also taught meditation twice each day and showcased other cultural ceremonies during their stay at Unity of Sarasota.
Two thousand Monks live in this one monastery with four other monasteries of similar size in close proximity. The Tibetan Culture is being wiped out in China and these Monks are part of an effort to keep their culture and spirituality alive. They are feeding, educating, and housing thousands, and this tour raises money to continue their efforts. The Indian government has been extremely supportive of Tibetans in exile, allowing them to fully express their spirituality and culture.
